  The Biomimicry 3.8 Institute is a non-profit dedicated to promoting the study and imitation of nature’s most sustainable designs. Each fall the Institute facilitates a Biomimicry Student Design Challenge focused on a selected real-world problem.

  Water. Without it, life on Earth would perish. Every organism, from the largest whale to the smallest microbe, depends on water. You can’t survive for more than a few days without it. In order to survive and thrive on Earth we need to manage water wisely. During this year’s Biomimicry Student Design Challenge we ask you to examine how nature manages this precious resource and apply what you learn to a local or global water challenge.

  Eligibility:

  • The Challenge is open to any university student worldwide who is enrolled in a degree program. 
  • Teams must include at least two individuals, with a maximum of six. Interdisciplinary teams are highly encouraged and we also strongly suggest working with a faculty and/or professional mentor.
