The Annual International Tech Strategy Business Case Competition is a competition, running for 24 hours where 16 teams of four MBA students each, dig into a case with the assignment to solve a market challenge focused on technology in business strategy and operations.
Some of the world's leading MBA programs have sent their teams to Boston, Massachusetts, where they will be challenged and their solutions judged by leading business professionals. Students arrive on Thursday March 25, and the event concludes with the awards dinner and ceremony on March 27, where Ericsson's President and CEO Hans Vestberg hands over a check for 25,000 USD to the winners.
The case serves several purposes:
It allows the students from top management schools from the world to work on a real live and current issue facing a company (in this case, Ericsson) and present their ideas to executives from the company;
Do it under intense time pressure that sometimes happen in real life as well when management needs to react to issues within a short duration;
Work in teams with differing viewpoints and skills;
Brings the theme of telecom and mobile internet to the forefront of attention of management students than what they may have been exposed at their schools;
Allows for interaction between Boston University faculty and Ericsson executives in a cooperative and value-added way.
