Electrolux Design Lab is a global design competition open to undergraduate and graduate design students who are invited to present innovative ideas for future households.
Since 2003, Electrolux has been challenging design students all over the world annually.
The challenge is to create a concept that is relevant to the time and raises questions about what design will be like in the future. The brief for 2013 calls for innovative ideas for Inspired Urban Living – Social Cooking, Natural Air and Effortless Cleaning.
The top 8 finalists are invited to participate in a final global event in October 2013 and present their entries to a jury of high-level designers. The jury will review the entries based on intuitive design, innovation and consumer insight.
Electrolux awards four prizes:
- 1st place is 5,000 Euros and a 6-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design center.
- A 2nd prize of 3,000 Euros,
- 3rd prize of 2,000 Euros and
- People’s Choice prize for 1,000 Euros are also on offer
Electrolux Design Lab has led directly to jobs and business opportunities in the design field for many of the contestants. Several finalists are currently employed in the Electrolux Global Design Centres.
Deadline of approved content for 1st submission stage is 15th March 2013.

The applicant must pass the first stage to enter the competition.
Required Submission Content for Stage 1 Profile description: - Personal details including name, nationality, university, type of education, country of university, a photograph and a short description of yourself. Concept description: - Choose theme: Social Cooking, Natural Air or Effortless Cleaning - Choose category: Product, accessory, consumable, service (can choose several) - Title: maximum 25 characters (incl. spaces) - Brief Description: maximum 150 characters (incl. spaces) - Description: maximum 1500 characters (incl. spaces) Images: Upload one or two images of your entry. Images need to be in the following format: - File format: JPG - File size: max. 5mb - Colour space: RGB
