The European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC) values innovation, especially when it comes to new business ideas involving satellite navigation. This is why it wants to give you the opportunity to present and promote your idea - and eventually put it into practice.
1. Register from 1 April to 30 June 2012
Follow the registration link HERE and create your personal account. Validate your account by clicking on the link you receive in the confirmation e-mail. Log into the database with your username (e-mail address) and password and you will be able to work on your idea as often as you like before the database closes on 30 June. You can submit more than one idea.
2. Submit your idea and choose your prizes
Choose the right partner for your idea from among all the regions. Read about what our industry and research partners can offer you and submit your idea for a special prize or prototyping prize.
Select a region (mandatory)
The region you select should correspond to the place where you wish to establish your business if you are named the regional winner or the Galileo Master.
Choose a special prize (optional)…
The ESNC awards special prizes sponsored by industrial and institutional partners who are searching for innovative solutions in certain fields of satellite navigation. This format is meant to encourage joint realisation of the winning ideas by their creators and the sponsors. Last year, more than 90% of all participants took advantage of the opportunity to submit their ideas for a special prize. In 2012, special prizes will be awarded by the following partners: the European GNSS Agency (GSA), the European Space Agency (ESA), and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). The University Challenge is also waiting to be won.
… OR choose a prototyping prize (optional)!
Alternatively, you can choose to compete for the prototyping prizes on offer: The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) awards a prototyping prize on the theme of "Connect Autos Tightly to ICT from V2X" and the GNSS Living Lab Prize calls for products and services ready to be tested and ideally implemented in a suitable Living Lab.
Become part of the success story!
Participants who also submit their ideas for one of the special prizes or the prototyping prizes are twice as likely to be nominated. The overall winner - the Galileo Master - will be selected by an expert panel between all regional and special prize winners. The Galileo Pro - will be selected from among the prototyping prize winners. Please note that the Galileo Pro will not be eligible to become the GALILEO Master.
3. Ideas database
The ideas database is divided into three different sections: In the technical section, you are asked to describe your idea as clearly and accurately as possible; the commercial section is about the market potential of your idea; and the legal section deals with your idea's formal project aspects and its trademark and patent rights. It's also easy to upload additional images, logos, or figures. You can update any of your entries whenever and as often as you like. Whenever you save your idea, the software calculates the percentage of required data that has already been submitted and displays a list of the missing data fields. Make sure your submission status is at 100% before the database closes on 30 June. Incomplete ideas will not enter the evaluation.
4. Audience Award
You have the option of adding a summary of your idea to the database and competing for the ESNC Audience Award. All such abstracts will be published at www.galileo-masters.eu after the international evaluation meeting in September. All visitors to the website will be invited to register and vote for their favourite idea. The candidates that receive most votes will win an iPad.
5. Evaluation
Once the database has been closed, experts from each region and prize sponsor will evaluate the ideas and nominate their winners. On 25-26 September, an international panel of experts will meet in Munich to select the overall winner - the Galileo Master - from among all of the regional and special prize winners.
6. Awards Ceremony
On 25 October 2012, the Galileo Master, regional winners, special prize winners, and the prototyping prize winners will be recognised and presented to the public at the Awards Ceremony in the prestigious Allerheiligen Hofkirche in Munich and at an official state reception at the Munich Residence.
Prizes:
The prize pool of this year's ESNC has a total value of about EUR 1 million, which includes business incubation, patent consulting, testing and marketing support, access to customer markets, and cash prizes. Every entrant will need to choose the region in which they wish to participate from among our more than 20 partner regions, each of which will eventually select a winner. Take a look at the Regional Prizes to see which is best suited to your plans for realising your idea.
Once you have chosen your region, why not find out what our research and industry partners can offer you? In addition to the regional prizes, participants can submit their idea for one of the Special Prizes orPrototyping Prizes. A winner will be chosen in each prize category.
Finally, the overall winner - the Galileo Master - will be selected from among all the regional and special prize winners by a panel of experts. If you submit your idea for a special prize in addition to the prize of the region you select, you'll thus double your chances of becoming the Galileo Master and receiving an additional cash prize of EUR 20,000.
You can also submit a summary of your idea to be voted on by the public in this year's Audience Award - and get the chance to win an iPad!
