On the occasion of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, INBAR and the Federation of Hong Kong Industries are organizing the International Bamboo and Rattan Product Ideas Competition to help drive green practices in cities around the world. The competition theme will respond to the Expo's theme "Better City, Better Life" by focusing on four categories- clothing, food, shelter and transport.

Why clothing, food, shelter and transport?

Coinciding with the Shanghai Expo, the competition is an opportunity to celebrate the four necessities of life. As the Chinese saying goes: clothing, food, shelter and transport "衣食住行" are the four basics and are things that are always part of us and show how fast our societies are changing. Bamboo and rattan make significant contributions around the world to meet these four basic needs.
