In the run-up to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP18) in Qatar this December 2012, the Voices4Climate Photo/Video/Music Video Competition invites young people from the ages of 18 to 35 to submit photos and videos relating to climate change.

Entries that do not relate to one of these categories will not be accepted.
Photos submitted as Entries should also have short captions (150 words or less), preferably in English. Videos (60 seconds or less) may be submitted in any language, but English or French subtitles are highly encouraged. Music Videos (between 60 seconds and five minutes in length) may be submitted in any language. The website is in English, however Entries in other languages can be submitted.
Deadline:
- All TerrAfrica Podcast Story category entries must be received by 11:59 pm EST, Monday, October 29, 2012.
- All photos, videos, and music videos must be received by 11:59 pm EST, December 31, 2012.
Rules for Submission:
- Voices4Climate Competition participants will be asked to certify their age when entering, and the World Bank reserves the right to verify the age of any participant, including potential winners. Participants submitting photos and videos to the competition must be between 13 to 35 years old and entries will be divided into and judged within two age groups: 13 to 17 years old and 18 to 35 years old. Participants submitting music videos to the competition must be between 18 to 35 years old and will be judged within this single age group. Participants submitting podcasts to the special TerrAfrica Podcast Story category must be between 18 to 35 years old and will be judged within this single age group.
- Voices4Climate photo, video, music video, and podcast submissions must be created by and owned by the entrant. Voices4Climate photo, video, and music video entries must tell a climate change story related to one of these eight categories: 1)Agriculture, 2) Cities, 3)Energy, 4)Forests, 5)Gender, 6)Health, 7)Jobs and the Green Economy, and 8)Water. The TerrAfrica Podcast Story entries must tell an African land degradation or sustainable land and water management story.
- Video entries (5 minutes length max) may be recorded in any language, but English or French subtitles are highly encouraged.
- Original music video entries must be between 60 seconds and 5 minutes, and may be recorded in any language, but English or French subtitles are highly encouraged.
The song and/or music featured in the music video entries (to include the lyrics, musical composition, and performance by the artist and/or band) must be original and created by the entrant(s). Music video entries which use commercially available music will be disqualified. TerrAfrica podcast story entries should be between two (2) to five (5) minutes long and submitted as an MP3 file.TerrAfrica podcast entries may be recorded in any language and must also be submitted with a transcript in English or French.
- The deadline for entries for the Voices4Climate Photo/Video/Music Video Competition is 11:59pm EST, October 15, 2012. An entry is timely only if received before this time. The time of transmittal will not be dispositive.
- Participants may submit more than one photo, video and/or music video entry in multiple categories; however the same entry may not be submitted to multiple categories. Entrants to the TerrAfrica Podcast Story category may submit a maximum of two podcasts.
- Winning entries from the Connect4Climate Photo/Video Competition 2011 may not be re-submitted to the Voices4Climate 2012 Competition.
Prizes
- Prizes may include solar backpacks, digital still/video cameras, computer tablets, and mobile phones.
- Photo Category: Prizes will be given to a first, second, and third place winner in each of the eight photo categories, in the two age groups (13-17 years) and (18-35 years).
- Video Category: Prizes will be given to a first, second, and third place winner in each of the two age groups (13-17 years) and (18-35 years).
- Music Video Category: First prize: the winning entrant and a guest will spend one day with MTV editors in London OR New York to help prepare their winning video for transmission on the MTV “Voices” platform. Prizes will be given to second and third place winners. Participants in the music video competition must be 18 to 35 years old to enter.
- TerrAfrica Podcast Story Category: The top two winners will be invited to attend the United Nations Conference on Climate Change/COP 18 in Doha, Qatar to cover the events for TerrAfrica Green Radio. Second and Third prizes will be given to up to 14 winners.
- People's Choice Award: One winner, determined by the greatest number of online votes, will be given the People's Choice Award.
Judging Criteria:
- Power of the photograph, video, or music video and its caption or narrative (includes creativity and the story the photo, video, or music video tells related to climate change and the relevant competition category) (33.33%);
- Potential impact on the competition objectives of raising awareness about climate change issues and communicating a personal climate change story or local climate change solution (33.33%); and
- Originality (33.33%)
- TerrAfrica Podcast story entries will be judged on the following three criteria:
1. Power of the podcast’s narrative (includes creativity, impact, and lessons learned) (33.33%);
2. Potential impact on the competition objectives of raising awareness about African land degradation, sustainable land and water management practices, and also highlighting potential solutions. (33.33%); and
3. Originality (33.33%)
- Selection: In addition to the judging process described below, visitors to the site can vote on any Entries received before the deadline to determine a People's Choice Winner. The one Entry (photo OR video OR music video OR Podcast Story) having received the most votes at the deadline will be deemed the winner of the People's Choice award. The number of popular votes for each Entry will be shown on the site at all times.
