Meet X-prize founder Dr. Peter Diamandis

Dr. Peter Diamandis runs some of the world's largest competitions and has been one of the pioneers of private spaceflight. At Student Competitions, we naturally think that the X-prize idea is a really cool concept and wanted to ask Peter why he thinks competitions are so important.

Apart from being the founder and CEO of the X-prize foundation, Dr. Peter Diamandis is also one of the founding fathers of several private space flight companies. One of the challenges currently running on the X-prize website is the Google Lunar X PRIZE challenge: "A $30 million competition that challenges space professionals and engineers from across the globe to build and launch to the moon a privately funded spacecraft capable of completing a series of exploration and transmission tasks."

So why is it so important to compete? In an exclusive interview with Student Competitions, Mr. Diamandis stated that:

"As humans we are genetically programmed to compete. We do our best work when we are under pressure, whether it is in starting a company or finding your spouse. So competitions are an extremely important way to drive breakthroughs and innovations"

At student competitions, we whole-heartedly agree with Dr. Diamandis and wishes him the best of luck for his ventures in future!
