This weekend, Student Competition’s in-house competition Champion, Gustav participated in AliBaba.com’s competition for all students who were attending the Kairos Summit, and won a trip to China! At Student Competitions we love to compete! So to keep our brains in shape, we regularly practice what we preach and participate in whatever competitions that comes our way.

This is Gustav’s story:

“Before the Kairos summit, I got the competition brief by email late Wednesday. I let the thoughts grow for awhile in my head, before I put pen to paper (finger to keyboard) and wrote my contribution. The task was to write a short text about an import/export business idea, which would be feasible to execute under AliBaba’s wings. The text I wrote was short with a touch of humor and answered the question, I wrote about a great design concept I have been working on with some friends. One lesson learned from this is that answering the question is immensely important! Many people do not answer exactly the question posed, so if you managed to do that one, simple thing correctly, you are one big step closer to winning.  

However, the most important lesson from winning this competition and my advice to you is to always participate in competitions! There were so many people that could have written those few sentences for the hand-in and won that trip to China, but few actually, for one reason or another comes around to send in their contribution. The ones that did not bother to send in a contribution did of course not win either.

If you feel that a contribution for a competition takes too much effort or time to make, that is a great indicator that you should apply for it! Why? Because everybody else will feel the same and refrain from participating so if you go that extra mile, you will have a head start on all the others. Quitters never win, winners never quit. “
