PREMISE Wiggle Chair by Frank Gehry… Barrel Chair by Frank Lloyd Wright… Tulip Chair by Eero Saarinen… Z-Chair by Zaha Hadid… As long as architects have been designing buildings, they’ve also been designing the chairs that feature within them. In order to have complete control over how users experience their buildings, Starchitects have masterfully crafted chairs that complement their design language. While architecture sets the scene, a chair can have a strong influence on the interior’s character. The Barcelona Pavilion is incomplete without the Barcelona Chair and so is the Villa Savoye without the LC4 Chaise Lounge. The Starchitect’s Chair design competition is looking for the next iconic chair. DESIGN SYNOPSIS Through training and experience, architects acquire a wide range of skills that enable them to design at any scale – from urban to product design. Designing a chair requires a deep understanding of the scale and dimensions of the human body. Imagine yourself as the next starchitect. Your buildings would need an iconic chair to accompany them. The chair needs to be more than a place to sit on. It needs to be a work of art! Design a chair that immerses the user in your design philosophy. The chair needs to take into consideration multiple aspects – aesthetics, materials, fabrication, and – most importantly – comfort. You can design any kind of chair – office chair, lounge chair, outdoor chair or something unique! Can you design the next iconic chair? SUBMISSION Participants are required to submit one Presentation Board (Landscape A1) in the form of one JPG/JPEG file for the ‘Starchitect’s Chair’ design competition. What They Say

Manish Sonal, India

Saravanan Yuvaraja, India
Winner of GE Light the way Challenge
“GE Light the Way Concepts for the future of Office Lighting Innovation Challenge Competition was one of my best life time experiences. This challenge had given me a chance to know exactly, what the organization is looking from the innovative student community for creating smart and sustainable world in the future.”
Arlisa Febriani, Indonesia
Winner of the Blue Bag Competition 2015 – Full Scholarship and living costs paid for at Lund University
Arlisa’s story is very unique and proof that given the right opportunity, the greatest ideas will succeed. By developing a revolutionary water cleansing system, she proved that anything is possible. This is great news for her, the people of Jakarta, and quite possibly the rest of the world who live in places with little or no access to clean water!
Avon Haughton, USA
Winner of The New School Competition 2014 – Scholarship at The New School in New York
“Winning the competition has been one of my greatest achievements thus far and participating was the most fun I’ve had in a while. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and I can’t wait to go to The New School!”
