Contestants submit a 30-second video reading a short passage in Maasai language (also known as Maa). Submissions are judged by native Maasai speakers in Tanzania. Students in Tanzania are also competing in a separate category to win help with school fees, school supplies, and facility improvements for their school. Competitors from around the world set their own entry price to compete. Over 90% of the proceeds go to the Tanzanian schools. The contest also serves to promote awareness of and respect for the Maasai, a community that is marginalized in Tanzania.
