SICLUS 2025: Student Innovation Competition in Climate, Energy, and SustainabilityTheme: “The Invisible Revolution: Reshaping Our Future with Low-Carbon Energy Through Innovation and Inclusive Growth”SICLUS 2025 is an international-scale competition initiated by the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE) Universitas Hasanuddin, Indonesia. It aims to empower young minds worldwide to contribute to solving global climate, energy, and sustainability challenges through interdisciplinary innovation. This annual event acts as a dynamic platform for students to collaborate, compete, and contribute real solutions to environmental issues affecting both local and global communities. The competition is born from a shared global urgency: the need for a just and inclusive transition to low-carbon energy. In line with the Paris Agreement and global Net Zero Emissions (NZE) goals, SICLUS recognizes that youth are not just the inheritors of tomorrow’s world—they are the changemakers of today. SRE Unhas, as one of 40 student chapters across Indonesia and the only one based in South Sulawesi, has long championed the role of students in driving sustainable innovation. With experience collaborating with renowned institutions such as PT Pertamina, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, G20 Indonesia, and the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), SRE Unhas brings a credible and inclusive approach to climate action. The theme “The Invisible Revolution” reflects the often-overlooked yet powerful shifts happening in how energy is produced, distributed, and consumed. This quiet revolution is led by students, researchers, and communities working behind the scenes—designing renewable energy systems, advocating for green policy, and creating technologies that build a more sustainable future. SICLUS invites students from all around the world to take part in this transformative journey.SICLUS 2025 features six core programs: 1. Student Bootcamp: A regional initiative for high school students in South Sulawesi, focused on renewable energy literacy, youth leadership, and environmental awareness. 2. Innovation Paper Competition: Open to national and international university students (undergraduate/D4 level), this competition encourages original research and proposals on topics like climate policy, maritime sustainability, green infrastructure, and the circular economy. 3. Essay Competition: Designed for high school students worldwide, this contest promotes critical thinking and expression around themes like smart cities, green technology, and global environmental cooperation. 4. Business Case Competition: Open to international undergraduate students, this challenge tests analytical skills by requiring participants to solve real-world problems involving low-carbon strategies, sustainable development, and clean energy transitions. 5. Photography Competition: A creative outlet for students to visually represent climate issues and sustainability through powerful, educational, and artistic imagery. 6. Seminar and Awarding Ceremony: A hybrid (online and offline) closing event where students, experts, and stakeholders gather for dialogue and recognition. It features keynote sessions on low-carbon innovation, sustainable cities, and inclusive energy, culminating in an awards ceremony for competition winners. The objectives of SICLUS 2025 are: • To promote climate literacy and energy innovation among youth globally. • To foster cross-border collaboration in addressing sustainability challenges. • To provide platforms for students to express and implement their ideas in science, policy, and community action. • To raise awareness and encourage solutions that are inclusive, just, and future-oriented.SICLUS 2025 is expected to engage over 1000 participants including international students, SRE members, high schoolers, and climate-conscious communities. It welcomes anyone passionate about shaping a sustainable future—because the revolution we need doesn’t always roar; sometimes, it starts with a single idea.
