5 Tips To Being A High Achiever
Everyone wants to be a high achiever, but most of us just dream the dream. None of us actually get down to it and work hard for it. But if you are considering the aspect of being a high achiever, here are some tips that may get you started.
#1 Work on something that you don’t necessarily hate
The phrase ‘find your passion’ is just too mainstream and possibly not the best advice around. We know that passion can range from anything to everything, including lazing around in bed. Finding your passion may be a good step to being a high achiever, only if your passion is reasonably noteworthy and healthy. If you find your passion aligning with social norms of success, hurray for you. Or else, my recommendation would be for you to work on something that you don’t necessarily hate. This would greatly broaden the range of things that you are able to do.
#2 Set realistic goals, yet aiming high
Now that you have found your work anchor, it is time to set an achievable high goal. Have you ever attempted standing broad jump? Basically, it is a physical test that gauges your jumping distance from a standpoint. The trick to jumping far is to aim further. The same can be applied to your life. To be a high achiever, you have to aim high and set your goals realistically right.
Sit down and visualize who you are and where you want to be. You have to know what you are yearning for deep down in your heart. After which, you set your goals for the next 6 months, 1 year and even 5 years. Having goals in life is essential to our mental well-being. It gives us meaning in our own existence and pushes us to strive for the better.
#3 Practice delayed gratification, stick to a strict regime
Have you ever heard of the quote, “success is 99% attitude and 1% aptitude”? This statement can never be truer. High achievers may have extraordinary IQ, but you can never dismiss the fact that without working hard, they can never qualify to be amidst the top.
Also, have you ever heard of the marshmallow experiment conducted by a psychologist Walter Mischel, then a professor at Stanford University? It was shown that children who practiced delayed gratification were correlated with higher SAT scores.
It is extremely helpful to plan a strict regime that allows you to achieve your goals. It could be cutting down on the duration spent on social media and reallocate that time to other meaningful activities that would ultimately contribute to achieving your goals. It is all about discipline.
#4 Take up more responsibilities
High achievers are usually people who are all-rounder. They also hold numerous leadership position. You too, should plan on joining some committees and work hard to assume of the executive positions. There is no wondrous, quick and easy solution to this path, but only time, hard work and charisma. Charisma is one of the most potent formulae to being at the top of the hierarchy, yet it is not an easy feat. The only thing you can do is to read up on how-tos to develop this skill and that brings me to the next tip - reading books on personal development.
#5 Read books on personal development
All humans will inevitably be forced to admit that they are not omniscient. We definitely do not know everything in this world, especially the habits that will guide us to being a high achiever. By reading this article, I am pretty sure you have acknowledged that. Anyway, we definitely need to break out of our standards and reach for knowledge beyond our ignorance. Reading books on personal development will open our minds to a whole new level of possibilities and enlightenment.
